Spreading Love for Cuban Food

“Cuban food is comfort food,” says chef Ricardo Barreras, co-owner of Brooklyn’s Pilar Cuban Eatery, whose parents came to the USA from Camagüey, Cuba. Barreras runs the restaurant alongside his wife Lizbeth Moreno. They opened Pilar Cuban Eatery five years ago to bring authentic Cuban food, incorporating only traditional ingredients, to Brooklyn. He’s proud to serve what he boasts is the “most traditional” Cuban food in the city.

Located near Clinton-Hill-Bed Stuy border

Located at 397 Greene Ave., the restaurant is a 2,500-square-foot space with Spanish Moroccan tiled floors and a pastel green stucco exterior like the colorful streets of Havana. It has large dining area with a bar and space for waiter service.

Recommended Dishes

Pressed Cuban sandwich, vaca frita, and yuca-chorizo hash

Barreras serves a croqueta preparada, which is a Cuban sandwich — ham, roast pork, pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard — graced with two creamy Cuban fritters stuffed with ham.
